Jim Haslam is currently Professor of Accounting, Governance and Society at the University of Sheffield, where he has served as Divisional Director for Research and Head of the Accounting and Financial Management Division. He graduated from Sheffield in 1981 with first class honours. He later qualified as a chartered accountant and obtained a PhD from the University of Essex. He has been a full professor since the age of 34, some 25 years. Before Sheffield, his main university employments in academia (where he has been since 1984) have been Aston, Bangor, London School of Economics, Essex, Waikato (New Zealand), Heriot-Watt, Dundee, Durham and Newcastle. He is on the editorial board of several leading journals including Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting and Accounting Forum. He has published over sixty academic articles in international academic journals, several book chapters and several monographs including 'Accounting and Emancipation' with Sonja Gallhofer in 2003. His research is in the area of the social analysis of accounting and related practices and has focused especially on the accounting writings of the philosopher Bentham, accounting theory and the notion of emancipatory accounting, corporate social responsibility, rhetorics of accounting and finance, accounting and poverty, and accounting and culture.
Shezad Abedi has been involved in energy hedging, energy finance and restructuring for over 25 years.
Currently Shezad is starting a new renewable energy and clean technology manufacturing and distribution company.
Shezad began his career in commodities in 1994 at Bankers Trust, a global investment bank that specialised derivatives, as a risk analyst on the commodity derivatives desk. He then was asked to join Enron Shezad founded, was a shareholder and Group Commercial Director of Welsh Power Group, one of the UK's first private-equity backed power companies with two operating power plants, one financed new 850MW gas power plant, a trading division and a supply business.
Shezad has also worked extensively in banking and advisory institutions. Shezad has acquired, managed and turned around businesses for himself and for his employers. Shezad holds a Masters Degree in Management and a Bachelors Degree in Physics from Imperial College, London University.
Dr. Marie-Line Nadim Karam holds a license and master’s degree in law with highest honor from the college of law and political sciences in Saint Joseph University in Beirut. She also holds a master of advanced studies DEA-LL.M in international law from one of the oldest Europe universities (Pantheon-Assas, Paris). She followed up with a French state doctorate in international law with highest honor and was praised by the committee. She also holds a number of certificates in arbitration, international mediation, and common law. She joined the Bar Association and was appointed a legal advisor for a number of public and private entities worldwide. She was also appointed as an international arbitrator specialized in deciding on international law cases. She is also a professor of International law, International Economic Law, International humanitarian law, International Energy law at the Lebanese University and at the Center for researches and diplomatic studies at the Lebanese Army. Dr Karam is a researcher and writer in the fields of human rights, amendment and development of international law, International Environmental law, Energy Law.... She directed several studies and thesis about these topics. She was appointed lately board member of the International advisory Committee of the journal of International Affairs and Public Liberties and the European Scientific Journal. Dr Karam is at the head of a legal clinic and she is the representative of two institutions from Paris and Italy specialized in the Alternative dispute resolution.
The first of the “International Congress on Accounting and Finance Research” was arranged in 2013 with the conference title "The Past, Present and Future of Accounting, Society and Democracy" organized by Bülent Ecevit University Çaycuma Vocational School. As a follow up to this conference the “2nd Accounting Panel from Past to Future” was organized. Taking the intense demands of panelists and participants in the panel's final declaration into consideration, it was decided that this initiative should be held in an international congressional dimension.
As a result of this decision the “3rd International Congress of Accounting and Finance Research” was managed by Bülent Ecevit Üniversitesi Çaycuma Vocational School in Zonguldak, Çaycuma with a huge participation. The "International Congress on Accounting and Finance Research" is an international congress in the field of accounting and finance, aiming academic, social, economic and professional cooperation.
The 4th “International Congress on Accounting and Finance Research” was held in Erzurum from 13-17 December 2017. The shareholder of the congress arranged by Erzurum Atatürk University are Bülent Ecevit University, Sakarya University, Izmir Democracy University, Bartın University, International Vision Universitesi of Macedonia, Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Celal Bayar University, Uludağ University, Azerbaijan State Economics University Turkish World Business Faculty, Turkish Finance Association, Erzurum metropolitan municipality and chamber of certified public accountants of Erzurum. The 5th “International Congress on Accounting and Finance Research” was held in Izmir 17-20 October 2018 with participation of diversified universities from Turkey and countries like Portugal, India, Macedonia, Czechia, Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan etc. 6th International Congress on Accounting and Finance Research (ICAFR'19) will be held on 24-25 October 2019 in Niğde / TURKEY, hosted by Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University.
